VSFA Awards

Congratulations to the 2010 VSFA Award Recipients  Robert King Fire Chief of the Year       Firefighter of the Year       Line Officer of the Year   Emergency Maintenance Technician of the Year     Senior Firefighter of the Year     Charles Taylor Junior Firefighter of the Year     George S. Gibby Scholarship Award     Rescue Ambulance Award

The Vermont State Firefighters Association honors those individuals whose outstanding achievements in the emergency services and community provide examples of exemplary performance. These are prestigious achievement awards.

The selections of award recipients are determined through a statewide nomination process. Awards are bestowed annually at the State Convention. Nominated by their peers, the recipients are awarded a plaque and uniform pin as well as a location of distinction in the convention parade. Awardees also secure an everlasting place in the history of the VSFA.

GENERAL AWARD CRITERIA

The following conditions should be considered when submitting a candidate’s nomination

1. The nominee for an award must be a member in good standing of VSFA for a period of not less than one year prior to nomination.
2. The nominating department must have at least 50% membership in VSFA for a period of not less than one year.
3. A completed award nomination form and a typewritten overview of the nominee’s activities must be submitted.
4. Acts of heroism are not considered for these awards.
5. All nominations must be received by Judging Committee by June 1. ( Nominations postmarked after that date will not be considered.)

ROBERT KING FIRE CHIEF OF THE YEAR	This award is intended for Chief officer who has made a major contribution or played a key role in a significant accomplishment or has done the most good for his/her department.
STATE LINE OFFICER               OF THE YEAR	This award is intended for a line officer that has done the most good for his/her department.
STATE FIREFIGHTER OF THE YEAR	This award is intended for a firefighter who has done the most good for his/her department.
SENIOR FIREFIGHTER           OF THE YEAR	This award is intended for a senior firefighter who has done the most good for his/her department.
VSFA RESCUE SQUAD/AMBULANCE MEMBER OF THE YEAR AWARD	This award is to be given to a firefighter who has demonstrated superior efforts in the field of EMS or has done the most for the good of his/her department.
CAPT. CHARLES TAYLOR YOUTH FIREFIGHTER OF THE YEAR AWARD	This award is intended for a young person who has shown high interest and has excelled in a local fire department through participation in activities and functions of the fire department.
EMERGENCY MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN OF THE YEAR AWARD	This award intended for a member of a fire or rescue department that has given considerable time and skill in maintaining apparatus and equipment in the department.
Support Specialist of the Year	This award is to be given to a member that has supported his/her department that is not eligible for another award.
VSFA COMMUNITY SERVICE   AWARD	This award is intended for any member who has played key roles in the significant accomplishment of the department. And who has provided outstanding lengthy honorable service to their department and community
VSFA LIFE MEMBERSHIP	Life Membership is reserved for Past Presidents and any member of the association who have provided outstanding service to the Association as voted by the Executive Board.
VSFA PRESIDENT’S AWARD	The president’s award is bestowed at the discretion of the active President to pay tribute to outstanding service to the Association or to the President.
